چکیده

Background Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PH) is a progressive disease of increased resistance to flow through the lungs, leading to right ventricular (RV) failure [1]. MRI is increasingly used to assess right ventricular (RV) function in PH. RV stroke work (SW) based on invasive pressure and volume measurements, is used to assess ventricular work. Determining RV work from MRI could enable a more complete characterization of RV and PA interactions in PH. The purpose of this study was to non-invasively estimate RV work from simultaneously acquired RV volume (VRV) and pulmonary artery flow (QPA) using a 4D flowsensitive MRI sequence in a canine model.

Kinetic energy efficiency of single ventricle and TCPC using 4D flow MRI

Background Altered hemodynamics in total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC), a palliation of single ventricle defects, results in long-term complications, such as decreased exercise capacity, arrhythmia, and ventricular failure [1]. Non-invasive hemodynamic evaluation of TCPC has been an important clinical challenge. Several studies have tried to understand and predict specific flow features using...

Right ventricular kinetic energy: 4D flow MRI analysis of healthy volunteers and repaired Tetralogy of Fallot

Background Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) is currently monitored with Cardiovascular MR (CMR) to measure right ventricle (RV) volumes and function. However, these indices do not always reflect performance status or predict success following repair of pulmonary insufficiency. RV kinetic energy (KERV) may provide a more robust measure of RV efficiency than RV end diastolic volume (EDV) index...

4D flow-sensitive MR estimation of pulmonary vascular resistance

Background Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by progressive increase in pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR), leading to right ventricular (RV) failure [1]. PVR is calculated using right heart catheterization (RHC), from the trans-pulmonary pressure gradient (ΔP) and pulmonary flow (QPA). Doppler echocardiography can estimate PVR from the ratio of peak tricuspid regurgitatio...

4D flow MRI can detect subtle right ventricular dysfunction in primary left ventricular disease.

PURPOSE To investigate whether 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can detect subtle right ventricular (RV) dysfunction in primary left ventricular (LV) disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS 4D flow and morphological 3T MRI data were acquired in 22 patients with mild ischemic heart disease who were stratified into two groups based on LV end-diastolic volume index (EDVI): lower-LVEDVI and higher...

Non-invasive evaluation of energy loss in the pulmonary arteries using 4D phase contrast MR measurement: a proof of concept

BACKGROUND The repair surgery of congenital heart disease (CHD) associated with the right ventricular (RV)-pulmonary artery (PA) pathophysiology often left patients with critical post-operative lesions, leading to regurgitation and obstruction in the PAs. These lesions need longitudinal (with time) assessment for monitoring the RV function, in order for patients to have appropriate treatment be...
